The Secrets of Grain, Wine, and Oil

From the very beginning, God knew that man would have to have food to survive. God planted a garden that would have what man needed physically and spiritually. God told Adam that of every tree in the garden he could freely eat, except of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Gn 2:8 ¶  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.9  And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

15  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.16 ¶  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

After a time, God formed woman from a rib taken from Adam. Adam said this was bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh and committed his life to their union, and named her Eve, the mother of all human kind. They had a wonderful life in the garden. All of the trees gave them nutrition that kept them strong, and as long as they ate regular from the tree of life, they would not age or die. So, God’s idea was that man and woman would live forever in communion with Him and God came and walked with them daily.

Is not this the life that we all desire? Praise God, He made a way for us which did start in the Garden of Eden, and will end up as God desired, forever, Rv 21 & 22.

As most know, Satan, who lost his privilege of Heaven, possessed a serpent so he could talk to Eve and deceived her into eating from the forbidden tree.

Gn 3:6 ¶  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

As a result Adam relinquished his dominion of the earth to the devil, and he and Eve lost their abode in the Garden of Eden and had to work hard to produce their food because of a curse that God put on the ground. However, God made a promise to send a Messiah who would make things alright and break the divide that sin had made between God and man. God cursed the serpent and said:

Gn 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

We know that the Seed of the woman is Jesus. Notice that in the Bible, the seed is descended from man. Here a woman, the virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.

God also could not break His Word, so He instituted the sacrifice of innocent animals to cover the sin of man from year to year by their death and blood so that man did not die immediately from eating fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Gn 3:21.

So that man could not eat of the Tree of Life, God placed Cherubim with flaming swords to guard the way to it, Gn 3:24.

The first sin, that affects us all, was committed by eating in disobedience.

Curse of the Ground Removed

After 10 generations of man with Satan being in charge, things were so bad that God sent a flood to destroy man and land animals. Only Noah, his wife, and sons, and their wives survived, along with a pair of every animal on the Ark that God told Noah to make. (There were 7 pairs of clean animals and fowls.)

After being on the Ark for a year, it landed in the mountains of Ararat.

Gn 8:18  And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him: 19  Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. 20 ¶  And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21  And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22  While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Gn 9:1 ¶  And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

Gn 9:20  And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21  And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22  And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23  And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

Here is the first mention of wine in the Bible. Noah was no doubt celebrating the lifting of the curse of the land, and made a vineyard and wine. However, he over drank and passed out resulting in the birth of Canaan that was fathered by Ham with his own mother, Noah’s wife or “nakedness”. The Bible is clear that Noah is not Canaan’s father.

Wine makes the heart of man merry it is a gift of God. But wine and strong drink can make you unwise if overdone, Pv 20:1.

Ecc 9:7  Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

Feasting in honor of the Lord continued and now man could eat meat as well.

First Communion

In the days of Abram when he was in Canaan, there were 5 kings that came against Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities of the plain and captured many and took them captive along with plundering all the wealth of those 3 kings. Included was Lot and his family. Lot was Abram's nephew.

Gn 14:13 ¶  And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram. 14  And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. 15  And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. 16  And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. 17 ¶  And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale. 18  And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19  And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20  And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

This is the first mention of the bread and wine used in a form of worship, for Melchizedek is the Priest of Salem (Jerusalem) and without father or mother presides a Priest forever, Heb 7. This is the incarnate Jesus, before He was born. Abram knew this, for you do not tithe except to God. David wrote of this that the Messiah was a Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek, Ps 110:4. This is also the first mention of tithe in the Bible. It is only fitting that the first tithe went to Jesus.

Bread used in worship and enjoyed with God

God made Covenant with Abram and changed his name to Abraham, and Sari’s name to Sarah.

When Abraham was 99 years old the Lord came to him with 2 Angels. Abraham bowed before Him in reverence as he knew Him from having bread and wine shared years before. He then had Sarah take fine meal and bake bread, and Abraham also served fresh lamb, milk, and butter to the Lord and Angels. A kind of feast presented to the Lord, Gn 18.

The Lord had come to check out the reported sin of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Lord stayed and told this to Abraham. Abraham reasoned with the Lord and got Him to agree to spare the cities if there were 10 righteous there. The discussion started at 50 righteous. The 2 Angels went on and met with Lot who was sitting at the gate of Sodom, a place of authority. Lot bowed before the Angels. After pressing them, Lot took them to his home and made them unleavened bread and a feast, Gn 19.

Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born and Sarah was 90. They named the child laughter (Isaac) because they had both laughed when the Lord told them they would have a child in their old age. Sari had Abram take an Egyptian maid to surrogate a child for her who they named Ishmael. This child was 14 when Isaac was born. The day that Isaac was weaned there was another great feast thrown by Abraham. It is not mentioned what was included in this feast, but you can bet that there was bread, wine, and oil there as well as goat and sheep for meat. There was probably milk, butter, and dates too.

Ec 8:15  Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

At this feast, Ishmael and his mother, Hagar were thrown out from Abraham’s clan by the request of Sarah after seeing them mock Isaac, Gn 21. This saddened Abraham, but was condoned by God. Isaac is the child of promise.

Isaac's Blessing to Jacob

Ge 27:28  Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

The dew of heaven is abundant water, and favor from God. The fatness of the earth is good soil and harvest of crops and would include oil from olives. Corn is grain and of course grapes would be wine.

Ps 104:15  And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.

De 7:13  And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

 De 8:8  A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;

De 11:14  That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.

Zec 9:17  For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

Ecc 10:19  A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

Pr 17:22  A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Pr 15:13  A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

As we will see, the sum of the Blessings of God are contained in the grain, wine, and oil.

The Bread and Wine

It has been said that the New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament, and the Old Testament is revealed in the New Testament. This statement is a wonderful truth. The things of God are revealed in the actions of men; and rehearsed as types that prophecy the future.

In the great wisdom that was given to King Solomon:

Ec 1:9  The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

From the first communion up through the deliverance of Israel (which was Jacob whose name was changed after a confrontation with God as a man) the bread and wine represented God and worship of Him. Jesus at the Passover of His death explained that the Bread was His Body given for us, and the Wine was His Blood, shed for the remission of our sins.

As the sin of man entered into the world by eating in disobedience, the redemption of man and entrance into the Grace of God is also entered into by eating and remembering the Body and Blood of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our good works cannot make us righteous before God, only the sinless sacrifice of God’s only begotten and precious Son, Jn 3:16.

The Eucharist means thanksgiving. In Communion we partake in the blood covenant of our Lord.

Bread, Wine, and Oil as part of Tithe

2Ch 31:5  And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.

Ne 10:37  And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.

De 14:23  And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

Many Blessings of Oil

Anointing of Kings

1Sa 10:1  Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?(Saul)

1Sa 16:13  Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

We see here the Spirit of God represented in the anointing of Oil.

Jesus received that anointing at His Baptism by John, Jn 1:32-34. Jesus received the Holy Ghost without measure. In other words all He needed for whatever purpose that God had ordained, Jn 3:34.

This is a fulfillment of the offspring of David that God promised would be on a perpetual throne. Mary the supernatural mother of our Lord Jesus, and Joseph who is the earthly father of our Lord are both descendants of David in Lk and Mt respectively.

1Ki 1:39  And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.

This anointing is for the Kingly line of David which leads to Joseph. Mary descends from the line of David outside of the Kings from David’s son, Nathan, in Lk.

Ps 45:7  Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Ps 23:5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Rev 1:6  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:10  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

These scriptures assure us that we can receive by the Anointing of the Holy Spirit, royalty, and Priesthood in our Lord Jesus.

The Light of Life, The Light of the World (shadows of Jesus)

Jn 8:12 ¶  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Nu 4:16  And to the office of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest pertaineth the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily meat offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof.

Ex 25:6  Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,

Ex 27:20  And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

Ex 39:37  The pure candlestick, with the lamps thereof, even with the lamps to be set in order, and all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light,

Oil for Sacrifices and to Anoint Priests

Nu 6:15  And a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread anointed with oil, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings.

Le 14:28  And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the trespass offering:

Le 14:29  And the rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall put upon the head of him that is to be cleansed, to make an atonement for him before the LORD.

Le 8:30  And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons’ garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.

Holy Oil to Anoint things to be Holy, and the Sick Healed

Ex 30:25  And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

Ex 35:8  And oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, and for the sweet incense,

Ex 40:9  And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.

Jas 5:14  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

I believe the Bible teaches that we are to anoint our children to dedicate them to the Lord. We should also anoint our house, our car, and other things we want to dedicate as Holy, and to let the evil of this world know that all of these things are protected by the Lord.

Summary

Redemption comes by eating in obedience:

The Body of Christ= Unleavened Bread; beaten, ground, pressed, and baked in fire.

The Blood of Christ= Wine; ripe for harvest, pressed, squeezed, fermented (laced with Holy Ghost).

Holy Ghost of God= Oil; Comforter sent by Jesus to be Baptized by Fire, used for light, healing, anointing, sacrifice, eating, and blessing. For olives to bring forth their oil, they have to be crushed.

The Body of Christ who was the Lamb of God, was brutally beaten and tortured. He did this for us so that “by His stripes we are healed”, Isa 53 & 1 Pet 2:24.

The Blood of Christ is the Blood of the New Covenant which cleanses those who believe in Jesus of all sin.

The Holy Ghost, sent by Jesus is the essence of God which can only come upon those who have accepted the Spirit of Jesus and are born again, Jn 3. Oil is the symbol of the Holy Ghost. From the dove that brought back the olive leaf to Noah and appeared to John at Jesus' baptism.

And the Oil of the olive that is used in every Holy thing.

Jesus gave this analogy of a person being born again to receive the Holy Ghost in the following:

Mt 9:17  Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

Mr 2:22  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

Lu 5:37  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

This is reference not only to wine that ferments and burst old bottles, but the Holy Ghost which can only come into a born again believer.

Protection of His own in Last Days

Re 6:6  And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

This is speaking about the 3rd horse of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. This is the black horse where the rider has a set of scales. Even though the grain is expensive, it does say not to hurt the oil and wine. This could be protection for those who are believers at this time of famine.

Mt 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

This is not the end of the world, but of the world system; for as the Lord asked us to pray “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Jesus said “alway” which is in all manner and all means.

Feasts of the Lord

All the blessings of God are demonstrated in the Feasts of the Lord that represent festivals of worship, with Bread, Wine, and Oil all present. The 7 Feasts were fulfilled by Jesus; the Fall Feasts surrounded Jesus birth, presentation, and flight to Egypt. The Spring Feasts were fulfilled at His death, burial, resurrection, and the arrival of the Holy Ghost. (See my latest blogs on Christmas the Bible Story and Jesus in the Spring Feasts)

Additional Feasts that are not fully understood:

Pentecost is 50 days past First Fruits which was the Wheat harvest. Next was 50 days past that which was the First Fruits of grapes (Wine). Then 50 days  past that was the First Fruits of olives which produce Oil. (This is the understanding of the Essenes concerning Lv 23 and the offerings  corresponding to Spring and Fall fruits when they were ripe for First Fruits, taken from the Temple Scroll of the DSS)

In conclusion; Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and only way to the Father, Jn 14:6.

All the blessings of God for you in this life are represented in the bread, wine, and oil, all of which are received by being a child of the King and having the Spirit of Jesus, and the Holy Ghost in you.

If you do not know Jesus, ask Him into your life today.
