Is the United States of America a Christian Nation?

In the last 50 years or so, the rich history of our Nation has been corrupted. However regardless of the liberal teachers in all levels of our education that would change the truths of our beginnings, the truth can still be found for those who choose to look.

Magna Carta

The Magna Carta or the "Great Charter" was signed into law by King John of England in 1215. It was composed by the Barons of England who had schism with King John over his misuse of power. This document became a cornerstone for the British Constitution as well as our Declaration of Independence  1776, Constitution,1787 and Bill of Rights 1791.

Principal concepts that the document declares are:
  • God is Sovereign over the affairs of men
  • All are subject to the law
  • Free men have rights
Excerpt from the Magna Carta, which shows the Christian influence of the document (underlining for emphasis):

Edward by the grace of God King of England, lord of Ireland and duke of Aquitaine sends greetings to all to whom the present letters come. We have inspected the great charter of the lord Henry, late King of England, our father, concerning the liberties of England in these words:
Henry by the grace of God King of England, lord of Ireland, duke of Normandy and Aquitaine and count of Anjou sends greetings to his archbishops, bishops, abbots, priors, earls, barons, sheriffs, reeves, ministers and all his bailiffs and faithful men inspecting the present charter. Know that we, at the prompting of God and for the health of our soul and the souls of our ancestors and successors, for the glory of holy Church and the improvement of our realm, freely and out of our good will have given and granted to the archbishops, bishops, abbots, priors, earls, barons and all of our realm these liberties written below to hold in our realm of England in perpetuity.
[1] In the first place we grant to God and confirm by this our present charter for ourselves and our heirs in perpetuity that the English Church is to be free and to have all its rights fully and its liberties entirely. We furthermore grant and give to all the freemen of our realm for ourselves and our heirs in perpetuity the liberties written below to have and to hold to them and their heirs from us and our heirs in perpetuity.

The Mayflower Compact

In 1600 in Europe and England there was the Catholic Church and the Church of England which had come about after the Reformation which was started by  German Martin Luther in 1517. His proclamation to the Catholic church was basically the 5 Solas: Bible is the highest authority, We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ, We are saved by the Grace of God alone, Jesus Christ is our Lord, Savior, and King, and we live for the Glory of God alone.

Also famous for his part in the Reformation was John Calvin, a Frenchman who did most of his work in Switzerland. He continued after Luther in the solidifying Protestantism. Calvin's teachings emphasized the sovereignty of the scriptures and Divine predestination which is a doctrine holding that God chooses those who will enter Heaven based o His foreknowledge of their life.

Among the Protestants were a group of people who separated themselves from the Church of England because is was so powerful and was controlled by the king. They were called separatists. They went to Holland in 1608 for 9 years in search of Christian religious freedom. Holland had too much freedom of religion and they returned to England and organized a venture to the new world and called themselves "colonists." They got funding from local businesses with an agreement to pay them half of what they made in the colonies of the new world. This gave them the means to pursue their search for freedom of religion.  In 1620 they sailed from England on the Mayflower, and were joined by other Christians who did not want to separate from the Church of England, but purify it. These were known as Puritans.

Later the colonists became known as the Pilgrims. The freedom of religion that was sought was freedom to worship Jesus Christ as they chose to without the lordship of the Catholic Church or the Church of England telling them what they could and could not do. All of the religions that are involved here are Christian.

When they landed in North America in Plymouth, Massachusetts, 41 of them signed the Mayflower Compact, which became a founding document along with the Bible.

Text of Mayflower Compact:

Having undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine our selves together into a civil body politic, for our better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the Colony, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In witness whereof we have hereunder subscribed our names at Cape Cod, the eleventh of November [New Style, November 21], in the year of the reign of our sovereign lord, King James, of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth. The Pilgrims were a reverent and Christian people. These are the roots of America. The Natives of America were evangelized by the Christian Church.

All of our laws are based on the laws of the Bible for an ordered society where God is sovereign, not man, or the state. This is apparent in the Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, as well as all 50 State's Constitutions.

Deu 10:20  Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.
Ps 83:18  That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Ro 13:1  Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Pv 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Our Founding Documents and the Bible

WWW.Adherents.com, has done the research of the first of our Founding Fathers and their religious affiliations. There were 204 unique individuals that were one or more of the following:

  • signed the Declaration of Independence
  • signed the Articles of Confederation
  • attended the Constitutional Convention of 1787
  • signed the Constitution of the United States of America
  • served as Senators in the First Federal Congress of 1789-1791
  • served as U.S. Representatives in the First Federal Congress
Some of the 204 people had several of the functions. ALL of the 204 were of Christian Denominations.

The Declaration of Independence states that all rights are given by the Creator, and our founding fathers set up a government that would guarantee those rights. The outline of the civil government is formulated in God's Word, the Bible.

All of our authorities are under the law as well as the people, who put them in office.
Deu 17:18  And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
19  And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
20  That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

The powers of the civil government are limited to military protection, crimes against society, perjury, negligence of children or elders, and the like. Such are the laws that we framed in our Constitution.

Moral matters and getting along were the majority of the laws in the Bible, and were given to the Church to manage; charity, honesty, integrity, self control, love one another, and such things.

Judges were to settle disputes between people at different levels of the seriousness of the dispute according to Biblical law.

The Bible teaches of 3 parts of government: King, Lawgiver, and Judge.
Isa 33:22  For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.
And so we established the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of our government according to Biblical guidelines in our Constitution. To check and balance one another. The Executive to enforce the law, the Legislative to create the law, and the Judicial to interpret the law. At the top of the Supreme Court is an engraving of Moses holding the 10 commandments. Their are Christian engravings on all of our government buildings in Washington, DC.

In the Bible and in our government, authorities are sworn in to obey the higher authority of God in the administration of their duties. To use any other authority to swear authorities into office other than the Bible and God its author, is going against our own foundation. Our form of government with the underlying freedom of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is desired more than that of any other government. To change our foundation is to change our government and that can only be for the worse.
Nu 30:2  If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

Jesus said, "The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance to the full, till it overflows." Jn 10:10 amp ver
This is a basic right, not be violated under our law. But your rights cannot infringe on the rights of others.

There has been several amendments to our Constitution, to clarify and expound in certain areas. The first 10 are known as the "Bill of Rights". Here us the first one:

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

There has been a lot of contention over the years about this amendment, and the phrase "separation of church and state" used as if it is contained in the Constitution, which it is not.

All of the signers of our founding documents were Christian of different denominations.
This is a fact that is often overlooked.

So, when you throw other world religions into the pot concerning this right, you can see how convoluted this law can become. Today it seems that Christians are the ones that are oppressed, and they are the ones who wrote the law.

President Obama has stated that we are not a Christian nation. But, I have shown you here that that is not the case. Our very roots and foundation is Christian, and regardless how much this President goes against the law himself and abuses his office, he cannot change that.

The problem comes when the people come against God and change who we are as a nation. Many have come here as immigrants and honored and respected our country and changed to become Americans and live the American Dream. But others came here to try and live the American Dream without honoring or respecting America. They want to bring the failed policies of the countries they came from to implement them here, thus undermining and pulling America down.

The basic problem arises that the Judeo-Christian God who gave us the Bible is not worshiped as supreme as He was in our blessed beginnings. You have groups that hate God and want him removed from every area of public life. That was never the intent of our founding fathers, or the Country in general, until recent times.

Alarming Parallels

When God brought his people to the Promised Land of Canaan, it was occupied by people who were enemies of God. They killed their children in a ritual sacrifice to a god called Molech where they were burned alive.

Some surviving ruins of Molech worship.

God warned to only worship Him, and not lean to the gods of the nations they were conquering or of the surrounding nations.

The chosen people of God, turned from Him and adopted many of the ways of the pagans around them. The pagan worship usually involved sex, of several different types, and people were drawn to it rather than God's design of sex within marriage between a man and woman. Children were unwanted products of these pagan rituals and were sacrificed in the fire of Molech.

In our country today, we have private companies that are subsidized by the government that kill millions of unwanted babies on demand. Their body parts are used for research and sold for profit. This has been going on for 50 years under the liberal guise of "women's reproductive rights." This is the same as ancient Israel, as these babies were conceived by sex mostly out of wedlock, and were unwanted and sacrificed. The difference is that abortion is silent murder of innocents.

Lev 18:21  And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
22  Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
24  Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
25  And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
26  Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
27  (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)
28  That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
29  For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
30  Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

In ancient Israel when they fell away from God and into idolatry, there were sexual priests and priestesses that were involved in the false worship. Adultery and homosexual acts were common place. Some of the kings of Israel and Judah came against these things, but they found their way back in as the people turned away from God. It got so rampant that the sodomites (what the homosexuals were called after God destroyed Sodom) built their meeting places in the courtyard of the Temple.

God is patient and long suffering and several times the people were led by Godfearing leaders that changed the way they were headed. But in the end of the era, God sent a fierce nation to conquer Israel, for the people would not worship the one true God and fell away into idolatry.
From the time that Joshua let the Israelites in to conquer the Promised Land until Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came and took them away was 880 years.

When God created man and woman the first marriage was ordained. Jesus said it like this,
Mt 19:4  And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5  And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

So now the Supreme Court has ruled that marriage can be between any two individuals regardless of sex. This is not only against God's law, but as we have seen an abomination before Him.

When God made His promise to Noah after the great flood, He sealed it with a perpetual sign that He would never flood the earth again to destroy all life. This sign would last forever...the rainbow.

Along with the Covenant with Noah was the promise that there would be seed time and harvest because God took away the curse of the ground and now meat could be eaten. All to be considered when we see the promised sign of God in the rainbow.
Gn 9:12 ¶  And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13  I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
14  And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15  And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16  And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

The ancient homosexuals taunted God by making their dwellings around the Temple and in the courtyard.

The modern homosexuals taunt God by taking a sacred token of His Covenant and making it their own. The President and a great number of people in this country are in agreement with this move.

Different places in the United States after the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage June 2015:

The White House

New York Empire State Building

One World Trade Center, New York

Niagara Falls, New York

Denver Colorado

Disneyland

San Francisco, California

St Louis, Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minnasota

Little Rock, Arkansas

The White House published this picture of the President taken at the right moment in Jamaica. They did take some flack over it. The President took a lot of credit for the advancement of the gay agenda.

The parallel between ancient Israel and America is that they walked away from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and worshiped other gods.

In August 2015 there was a projection of endangered animal species projected on the Empire State Building which represents New York City.

At the close of the show was projected the Hindu goddess Kali, the goddess of death and darkness.

The difference between ancient Israel and the United States is this: Israel lived under the law of God, and we are in the time of the Grace of Jesus Christ whom God allowed to be sent for the redemption of the world.
Jn 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

So, Christians (those who have Jesus Christ living in their spirit) are not condemned by God.
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

But those who are of the world are subject to the law of God, whether they realize it or not. Satan is the god of this world and does whatever he can to attack the people of God. That would be Christians and the Orthodox Jews who worship God under the Old Testament and still look for the Messiah to come.
God's law requires judgment for breaking it (sin). Jesus took that judgment and punishment for His own, but not for the world.

Jesus said, " I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Jn 14:6
So, if you are reading this and have not asked Jesus into your life, I urge you to do it today. He is God's means of salvation and your life will change from within.

God is patient and so good, after all he sent us Jesus, because our own works will never get us to Heaven. He warned Israel by Prophets of the coming destruction to come. He warns us today by men of God as well.
2Ch 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

For us who are Christians, we must pray for our Nation. We must vote for men who submit to the power of God and do that which is right in the sight of our Creator.
James (the Lord's half brother) said...vs 16...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
And we are the righteousness of God in Jesus, so pray for our leaders, and our Country. Regardless of what you might hear our motto is "In God we Trust." It is on all of our money, and needs to be in our hearts. Let us keep America a Christian Nation.

Post Script 4-4-16

It has come to my attention that ISIS has destroyed an ancient temple of Baal in Syria. For the sake of rebuilding cultural history, the United States is going to build a replica of the Baal temple in Times Square in New York City, and England is going to build another in London.

Baal is absolutely evil and his temple is the very roots of sexual sins against our God as well as the murder of children.

http://www.wnd.com/2016/03/temple-of-baal-to-go-up-in-new-york-london/

Update: the outcry was enough to stop this evil structure from being built...for now.

Update 2018: With the election of a God Fearing man, President Donald John Trump, the platform of the party that stands for abortion, sexual perversion, socialism, and globalism has met considerable resistance. The United States of America is divided on these things, and there is unrest.

The Bible teaches us that there is the final world government coming, and it will be led by the Anti-Christ who will be defeated by Jesus at Armageddon, the last battle of this age. Satan is working hard to make this world government happen.
