Evidence of Noah's Ark

In the last blog we discussed the size of the ark according to the Bible. The 515' ship held the size record for 4000 years. No doubt Noah needed Divine instruction in order to build such a giant craft. His family worked on it for a long time, Genesis 6-9.

Men have searched and searched for the ark. Many have climbed the 16,854 Mt. Ararat in Turkey in this search because the Bible says that the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Mt Ararat and lesser Ararat are alluring and beautiful mountains.

The majesty of these volcanoes makes one look in awe. Could the ship that saved all terrestial life be up there?

According to one man, no it is not. His name is Ron Wyatt. He knew that the age of this mountain was younger than the Flood. He and his sons found what I and many others believe is the remains of Noah's ark. It is about 20 kilometers from Mt. Ararat and can be seen from space or Google Earth.

This structure was looked at in the 1960's and because it was petrified and not apparent wood it was disregarded as being the ark. Arkdiscovery.com is a site that has much more information about this find. The length and width match, but the decks have collapsed.

Many have thought that the ark must have been fashioned after a barge.

One man even built a replica of what he thought it would look like.

But, the ark was made from reeds with a wooden deck and was pitched with asphalt inside and out to make it water tight.

Ron Wyatt found metal cross tie rods, timbers, ribs, animal dung, animal horns, and many other things that convinced him that this was really Noah's ark.

It was convincing to the Turkish government also, for they built a park there with a visitor's center with information about the construction of the ark and relics that were found on it.

This is how it looks on Google Earth.

Other evidence was found in this area, drogue stones or anchor stones.

These massive stones weigh several tons. They were suspended under the ark to stabilize it in rough seas. The ark was not powered but at the mercy of the wind and waves of the storm. The rolling of the ship was reduced greatly by the use of these drogue stones. You can see that Christians have carved crosses in them, knowing centuries ago that they were off the ark. Noah cut them loose when he knew that landing was close. Tests of these ancient techniques have proven to stabilize a vessel in the waves.

There were very large ropes made from plant fibers to hold these stones. Large holes had to be drilled with hand tools in the rock.

Many will not believe that this is actually Noah's ark. The evidence speaks for itself. About 60 KM to the east in the Republic of Azerbaijan is the place where Noah settled near the city of  Naxcivan.

This is also where Noah is buried and a monument has been built.

I have presented this blog to show you yet another Bible story that is true. I believe that it is important to know what God has done and what He will do.

The Great Flood of Noah

The Bible describes a great deluge in which the earth was covered in water that destroyed the land inhabitants, Genesis 6-9. God caused this because of the rampant evil that was displayed in mankind. Only 8 humans survived as well as all land animals in a huge ship, the Ark of Noah.

A world wide rain that lasted 40 days, as well as the fountains of the deep breaking forth, covered the earth with water.

Many ancient cultures had stories about the Flood. The Hammurabi, Tablets of Ebla, the Gilgamesh, as well as China and many others. It was considered a fact of history in the ancient world. Only in the recent rise of knowledge and science in the past 150 years or so have people began to doubt the truth of the Flood.

Is it Possible?

Lets look at what the Bible says about it.

In Genesis 1:6-9, it states that God made a firmament or atmosphere that divided the waters from the waters. This would make a very large canopy of vapor, much larger than our present atmosphere and much more humid.
In Genesis 2:5-6 it states that a heavy dew watered the land, and that in had never rained. This would help explain the longevity of men at that time as the larger atmosphere would filter out the harmful ultra-violet rays.
The collapse of the water vapor caused a world wide rain for several days. As it is written, 40 days long in Genesis 6. There were many hurricane type storms for the first time that condensed and collapsed the water from the atmosphere.

The lifespan of man went down very rapidly after the flood. The time of the Flood is 1656 years (360 day years) from Adam, or about 4350 years ago. Man in the generations before the Flood average age was 847. A few generations later we see Abraham as very old at 175. By the time we get to Moses, men were old at 80, Psalms 90:10.

There are fossils all over the world, from the mountain tops to the plains and valleys that were formed by the sea. I do not understand the fairly recent reluctance to accept the Flood as a possibility of what caused their formation. When the first fossils were found, it was common to believe that they were evidence of the Flood.

(There is evidence, physical and scriptural that speaks of an earlier flood prior to Adam. We are not referring to that flood right now)
There are huge coal deposits which were formed by great pressure on plants, and huge oil deposits which were formed by pressure on animals. There are those that try to stipulate that oil is being formed today, but that is not proved. Wars and world economy are founded on the importance and scarcity of oil. The Flood would explain both coal and oil formation.

Would it be possible to get all of the animals on the Ark?

The Bible says that God helped Noah to get a pair of every animal, and 7 pairs of every clean animal on the Ark. Plus he had to get food for all of them. This would require a lot of space. The Ark was 3 decks and measured 300 X 50 X 30 cubits. This would be equivalent to 5 trains of 110 boxcars. With the average size of an animal being the size of a house cat, this would be plenty of room. There is a recent study that was done in June 2011 that stated world species were a few million and most were insects.

The waters rose to cover even the mountains. However, the mountains of today were probably formed during and after the flood. Psalms 104:6-8 tells of the mountain and valleys forming from the flood.

After 150 days the waters started to subside. After 7 months the Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. After 10 months, the tops of the mountains could be seen.

Noah released a raven to check on the condition of the earth. It did not return. Noah then sent a dove out, but it found no place to light and returned to him.

After many days, Noah sent out the dove again. This time it returned with an olive leaf in its mouth. There was rejoicing at this.

After 1 year and 10 days, Noah, his 3 sons (Shem, Ham, and Japeth) all their wives, and all the animals left the Ark to replenish the earth at God's command. None of the wives are named in the Bible, but ancient Jewish writings say that Noah's wife was Naamah.

God promised that while the earth remained there would be seed time and harvest, summer and winter, and day and night and that the curse of the land was over. God also said that He would never destroy all life on earth by a flood again. The rainbow was the perpetual sign of His covenant. (Remember it had not rained till the flood, and now the rain came and the rainbow was seen.) Noah offered sacrifices to God in honor and gratitude.

This is the basic story of the Flood. There are several deep reasons and concepts concerning the story that I will not go into at this time. The main point here is that what the Bible describes about the Flood of Noah is possible.  The next blog will go into evidence of the existence of the Ark.

Into Sinai and God's Total Presence...

As God's plan unfolds, we see Israel moving. From the camp at Horeb, the Children of Israel were guided to the wilderness of Sinai.

In the wilderness of Sinai, the people dwelt for some time. They had been led here. God wanted them here. Here they heard Him for themselves.

In this valley they camped with the Holy Mountain in view. Here is where God spoke to them in the thunder, lightning, and fire. Exodus 19

God told Moses to set up boundary markers around Mt. Sinai so they did not approach too close and be killed. They are still there.

The Holy Mountain still has a singeing of the rock at the top where God Himself descended and gave Moses the 10 commandments and the rest of the Law or Torah (1st 5 books of the Bible). Exodus 20

Moses made an altar to worship God at the foot of the mountain, and it is still there. Exodus 24

Remember that this mountain is called Jabel El Laws in Saudi Arabia. It is not the traditional Mt. Sinai on the Egyptian side of the Gulf of Aqaba. Yet this one has the evidence.

Moses was a long time up on the Holy Mount talking with God and receiving His Word. During the time he was gone the people became inpatient and pushed Aaron into building a golden calf and they built an altar and worshiped it as the "god" that led them out of Egypt. Exodus 32

I have seen pictures such as this and thought that the altar was relatively small. However the altar is there and is as big as a house.

You can see the fence that the Saudis have erected, not only here but across the valley leading to Sinai.

You can imagine the people dancing and worshiping this false god. Look at the petroglyphs of cows along the top of this altar.

God spoke to Moses on the Mount and told him to get down for the people had corrupted themselves.

Moses was angry and broke the tablets of stone from the Lord.

Many people were killed and many plagued over the making and worship of the golden calf. Moses burned the calf and ground the ashes into powder and made the people drink it. God still was forgiving and promised them the land flowing with milk and honey. Exodus 32 and 33

Before we judge the actions of the Hebrews too harshly, we must remember that they had been many generations in Egypt where this type of worship was common. The god Hathor was a female that also was depicted as a cow, giving life. There were many Egyptian gods.

Plus, we know the commandments  that God set forth, yet we still put things in our lives above God.

The Word teaches us that all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, Romans 3:23. We all need the Grace of God and the forgiveness and life that comes only through God's salvation in Jesus Christ.

The stories told of the Exodus in the Bible are true because this book is inspired by God and reliable truth. In the last few blogs I wanted to show you the evidence that is out there.

Further study should include Ron Wyatt's research at arkdiscovery.com, and Youtube.

All of the pictures here came from Google Earth and the Internet.
